Hong Kong Events - January 2027
January is Hong Kong's coolest, clearest month — dry air, blue skies and daytime temperatures in the mid-to-high teens. It is the best month of the year to walk the Golden Mile, and one of the busiest for arrivals, so book hotels early.
Nathan Road is not a venue — it is the route. This month the street itself makes the news: the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon sets off up Nathan Road on Sunday 17 January, and Andy Lau closes his Hong Kong Coliseum run a week earlier. Around them, the cultural cluster that lines the road — Kowloon Park, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong Museum of Art — runs all month.

🏃 Sport and Street Events
Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2027
📅 Sunday, 17 January 2027 · first wave from 05:40
The full marathon starts on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and runs out through West Kowloon and across the Stonecutters, Tsing Ma and Ting Kau bridges before finishing in Victoria Park; the 10 km and half-marathon share the day. Road closures begin in the small hours, so this is a morning to be on foot rather than in a taxi.
📍 Location: Start: Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui · Finish: Victoria Park
🎟️ Entry: Runners only — free to watch from the pavement anywhere along the route
🌐 More Information: hkmarathon.com
Why go: at 05:40 the Golden Mile becomes a river of runners with the shopfronts still dark — the one morning of the year the road belongs to the city and not to the traffic.

- Cool and clear: the best month of the year for the Avenue of Stars and the Star Ferry. Check the weather page before a waterfront evening.
- Book ahead: January is peak arrival season for Hong Kong — see hotels on Nathan Road.
